The Why Behind It All
Like so many of us, I feel constantly bombarded by content and the pressure to consume just to keep up with culture—podcasts, prestige TV, movies, books. And then there’s social media, where our friends (and countless influencers) introduce us to new trends, impossible beauty standards, and unattainable lifestyles. It’s overwhelming. It’s underwhelming. And honestly, I need a hobby to stop the numb over consumption.
As I debated potential hobbies—beekeeping? horseback riding?—I quickly realized the time and cost implications. I can’t keep bees in my one-bedroom apartment. I can’t drive 45 minutes to a stable after a long workday. But what I can do, what I genuinely enjoy and can manage after an exhausting day, is consuming media. Crap.
But here’s the shift: I can consume it more thoughtfully. I can sit with it. I can have something to show for it instead of simply checking another item off an endless list. That’s what I hope to do here.
This blog is for me—to build a hobby, to create something meaningful, to return to my writing practice, and to engage with content consciously.
